Dear Friends,
On Monday, October 25th I travelled to Houston, TX. The next day, the 26th I went to Livingston to visit with Dominique Green one last time.
When I feel more collected about the whole experience I will post my description on this website. At this time it is still a bit raw and I'm not too sure exactly what has happened to me.
I can say that the execution took place in Huntsville at 7:45pm. It was, without a doubt, the most evil, the most horrific thing I've ever seen.
Dominique, however, died with great dignity, he was loving and giving and thanked us all for being there - his last words were asking us to help the sons of the victim reach their potential.
The sons: Andre and Andrew had begged the governor of Texas to spare Dominique's life, even the wife of the victim had written Governor Perry asking for clemency - to no avail. Texas is a serial murderer. Whatever one feels about the death penalty, the one fact that should make all evolved souls ponder is that every single person on death row - without exception - is poor. And as we well know, murder is an equal-opportunity crime.
As ghastly as it was, and even though it will haunt, I know for sure there is nowhere else on earth I would rather have been two weeks ago, than with Dominique as he was killed. I feel that I truly stood at the foot of the cross - a young man murdered by the State, just as Jesus was. I feel privileged that I was there - I hope I can use the experience to inform and benefit others.
I will not be entering anything more on my website until later in December. I am leading a retreat on Long Island this coming weekend and the next weekend in Pennsylvania and then I leave to begin a month-long retreat for myself in Massachusetts. I'm so looking forward to diving into the silence and allowing myself to process this past month.
I wish for you all a blessed Thanksgiving with hearts filled with gratitude.
Please keep me in your prayers.
