Dear Friends,
How did so much time fly by?
Just a moment ago it was September!!!
Well, one of the reasons I was not able to write an update on my website is that I was away for all of October and most of November on retreat in Massachusetts. All that time of silence and meditation - it's so delicious. Coming back into the world is necessary but seems almost unreal, rather like a butterfly trying to squeeze back into it's cocoon. Even though on retreat, it appears nothing is going on, I feel the most active and dynamic when I'm sitting in silence.
My life outside retreat is extremely busy and full with lots of stuff going on but somehow on retreat I feel I'm making my greatest contribution to the welfare of the world and all humankind. Don't ask me to explain how that is, I have really no idea, but this life of activity, phonecalls, websites, etc. etc. feels less and less real.
Since leaving retreat I have done a few auctions which were not listed on my website as well as attending a marvellous recovery event in Pennsylvania over New Year's Eve. Now my entire focus is on India. I depart New York mid-February and will be gone for five weeks in India and one week in England.
I will be visiting the Missionaries of Charity in Calcutta and paying my respects at Mother's grave. I then intend to travel to Darjeerling by train - it was on this same train journey that Mother Teresa received (as she put it) her "call within a call" which sent her from the comfort of the Loreto convent into the streets of Calcutta. After Darjeerling, I will return to Calcutta and then head south. I intend to visit the Ramana Maharshi ashram as well as the Bede Griffith ashram.
I could easily have visited Bede Griffith when he was alive, but put it off - it's one of my great regrets, and another reminder not to put things off because one might never get another chance.
I've been invited to speak at a 12th step gathering in early March in Kovalam on the East Coast of India and then hopefully, I'll travel around Cochin and eventually make my way to Bombay to fly to England. Of course, all this could change. Travelling in India I want to leave myself open for the adventure and see what happens. I'm looking forward to seeing a lot of the Missionaries of Charity sisters I haven't seen in years and there will be many reunions reunions with friends in India and England.
If I can get access to a computer I'll try and write again en-route.
In the meantime, I send you all my good wishes for 2006.
