I'm always so amazed how fast time seems to pass. Well last month I spent a very happy week in Kentucky - I was with good friends and was able to ride every day so of course was in my element.
In Lexington, I visited Keeneland racetrack and while there went into the empty sales pavillion. When I stood in the middle of that empty space, I suddenly remembered a desire I had expressed years before but had since forgotton, when I became an auctioneer--that desire was to auction thoroughbred horses. When I investigated the possibility back in the late '70's I realized it was such a closed old boy network that it would be impossible so I put the desire aside.
However, now I feel I'd like to pursue it again. I have made some inroads and talked to a lot of people. No positive results yet but it's a fun pursuit and I'll just have to see what is in the mind of God. It's odd don't you think, that there is so much going on in the Universe yet still one can feel that a desire such as becoming an auctioneer of horses, is in God's mind?
I was supposed to speak in Toronto this past weekend. I was scheduled to be the banquet speaker Saturday evening at a reception for fifteen hundred. Well, I guess someone else was meant to speak because here in the Northeast we were hit with a severe winter storm and all the airports were shut down. There was no way I could get out. I had gone to the airport early, long before the storm really hit, but still I couldn't leave. So after six hours and lots of phone calls, I got in a taxi and took a slippery ride back to my home.
Earlier in the month I led a Day of Silence here in the city. It was a lovely experience to have that kind of seclusion in the middle of Manhattan. At one point in the afternoon we took an hour-long walk in silence around Central Park.
