News: from Lorna

Oct 28, 2010, Books are here.

Goodness. Goodness. Yesterday was quite something.

I slept over at Sean Pica's house in White Plains. Sean is the administrator of the Hudson Link program at Sing Sing, so then there was him and a few alumni from Sing Sing and we all piled into his truck the following morning at 6:15 and drove to North Bergen in New Jersey.

We got to this enormous warehouse, showed our paperwork and were then ushered into a gigantic space filled to the rafters with boxes all wrapped in shrink wrap.

We gave the form to a fellow who was buzzing around on a yellow forklift and off he whizzed. Back he came moments later with a pallet stacked with boxes of my book! Then came another pallet - I knew there were to be two pallets but when I saw them I paled, I thought those boxes would never ever fit into the truck we had. But then......yet another pallet of boxes arrived!

I just wandered off and let the guys get on with it - I had no idea what Sean had in mind for Plan B because it was obvious they were not all going to fit. But, what do I know? He got them all in. I thought he must have thrown a few boxes away - it was a total miracle.

On the drive back he said that he was sweating bullets too because he didn't see how they were all going to fit, and he could see his tires sinking and sinking with the weight.

I called the broker to see how much the load actually weighed and he told me 6,000 lbs. When I told Sean he crossed himself and said that his truck was only designed to hold 2,000 lbs! So we drove very, very slowly but even so, the truck kept swaying from side-to-side.

We got back into New York and the guys unloaded twenty boxes up the stairs and into my apartment - Sean then took out my two air-conditioners loaded them onto the truck and we drove up to Ossining, New York where the remainder of the boxes will be stored in his offices.

I then took the train back to the City and stared at my beautiful boxes of books. A huge job accomplished. I'm so proud of myself - and my book looks fabulous.

I did find a typo - who can find it first?

Now, I'm on a mission to sell all 5,000 copies! Hope you all buy one or two!

Love,
Lorna
