Jul 21, 2011, HEART SURGERY

Well, if it's not one thing it's another I'm facing open-heart surgery. I went for a second opinion this afternoon and was told that surgery should take place just as soon as possible.

The diagnosis is that my heart is very weak and the tear in one of the valves is severe. All the violent coughing I was doing because of the bronchitis, exacerbated the condition.

I asked the doctor about my planned upcoming trip to the American West and was told I probably wouldn't make it - I guess that's pretty clear. He said that I might survive but I'd be very uncomfortable. So as soon as I got home, I cancelled my trip.

Of course I have to have all sorts of testing done before surgery and that is being set up tomorrow. However, I do know that surgery will probably be within the next two weeks.

I will keep posting here as I know more about what I'm heading into. Lorna
